Old Guys Patrol Beef Stew
- made famous at camp outs such as Big Bear Lake, Lake Sabrina, and the annual Camporee

Makes one Dutch Oven, feeds 5, two servings each. It takes about 1-1/2 hours from start to finish
From store: From troop patrol boxes:
2 lb. of Steak or Stew Meat (Top Sirloin or whatever is on sale)
1 bag of small red potatoes
2 lb. of baby carrots
1 big yellow onion
3 stalks of celery
1 packet of McCormick's Beef Stew mix
1 tube of Pillsbury Grand Biscuits
Cooking Oil

Dutch oven, Dutch oven handle, Hot pads

Big Spoon, cutting knives, cutting boards

10 Charcoal squares (to brown the biscuits)

Slice and Dice:
Cut the meat into bite size pieces
Cut the onion into wedges

Cut up the celery
Cut other vegetables

Cook:
Light the charcoal, to be used later

Pour oil in to Dutch oven to cover the bottom and start to heat on the stove. Add the meat and the onion and cook until meat is brown (about 10 min)

Pour in the beef stew mix, all of the vegetables, and 2 cups of water.  Mix well and bring to boil.
Cover and turn down the heat to low.  Cook for 15 minuets, mix the stew a couple of times to make sure it is not burning.  If so, add some water.

When the first 15 minuets is done, take off the cover and then place a layer of tin foil to cover the entire top of the stew.  Open the biscuit roll, pull apart, and place all of the biscuit sections on top of the foil. Put the cover back on and then place the 10 charcoal squares on top of the lid.

The biscuits will take about 30 minuets to cook.  Dinner is ready when they look golden brown.
